Good News
7 years of Tribulation, antichrist, persecution/martyrdom of Christians and Jews, then the armies of the world march toward Israel to finish the job. And it looks like they might succeed. Christians are in hiding around the world, many Jews have fled Jerusalem, and have been hiding in the wilderness for 3 ½ years, the armies and the antichrist have arrived in Jerusalem, and are hunting down and killing. The 2 witnesses who stood for God, and called the world to repentance, and called down plagues on the world for 3 ½ years were killed by the antichrist and their dead bodies left in the streets for 3 days.
But this is the moment when the tide begins to turn. After 3 ½ days, the two witnesses, live on CNN, start to move, then stand up, then a voice calls from heaven for them to ascend to God, which they do, in the sight of the whole world.
And in the middle of that shock, there is a great earthquake that shakes the entire world. It is so intense that there isn’t a city in the world that isn’t rocked. And the people of the world, in great fear, shaken out of sleep, or wherever they happen to be, run from structures and shelters for fear that they may be crushed. And then a second great worldwide judgment, 75-pound hailstones begin falling from the sky around the world.
At this moment, the civilized earth is a wasteland. Smoke, darkness, pollution are everywhere, and people are either wailing over loved ones, or standing dazed in the streets. Then a third awful catastrophe occurs, the likes of which man never thought he would see. The sun, moon, and stars darken. It looks as though the very heavens are imploding. And there’s nothing anyone can do but watch the fireworks.
But in the total blackness of that hour, people around the world are staring in terror at the pitch-black sky, hoping against hope that the heavenly bodies will return to their former brightness.
And suddenly, almost imperceptibly, there is a light that appears in the eastern sky. But they soon realize that it is not the light of the sun, because it is coming closer, and very quickly.
Everyone is dumbfounded as this light grows larger, and takes on a form in their eyes. It is a man, shining with the shekinah glory of God. His eyes are like flames of fire, His robe is shimmering, blinding light, His feet are like bronze heated to melting in a furnace.
Then they notice something else, He has scars in His hands and feet, And with Him are the angelic hosts of heaven. At that moment, there is the sound of a great trumpet that resounds around the world, and smaller lights appear, rising up out of the earth from all corners of the globe.
And in almost that same exact moment, Christians around the world, whether in prison, or alone in a cave, suddenly disappear as flashes of light rising up into the sky. And all the streams of light ascend together to that spot in the sky where the returning Christ is. A massive light display that emblazons the black sky with a light more pervasive and bright than the noon day sun.
And then world responds. Those who have heard of Jesus, Jew and Gentile alike, weep, that they did not put their faith in Him before now. And they cry out for forgiveness. But others, even in the face of this phenomena, and undeniable display, respond in terror. Their evil hearts are quaking with the quaking of the earth. And they run into any shelter they can find so they don’t have to look at their impending judge.
After a moment of sweet reunion in the atmosphere around the earth, then we see Jesus further descend, with His angels, until He sets foot on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. There is another great earthquake when His foot touches the earth, and the ground under His feet splits apart, dividing the city of Jerusalem. Chaos ensues, repentant Jews who had been hiding, with new-found faith, throw all caution to the wind, and run headlong toward the descended Christ, while the armies that had been pillaging the city flee in the opposite direction. When all the repentant are in safety, Christ, on a blazing white horse, along with ten thousands of angels burst forth with fury against the enemies of God. He unleashes the powers of nature itself on those armies with wind, and fire, earthquake and blood. The enemies of God cannot escape the sword of His Words that echo across the world.
Across the valley of Megiddo, the millions who have gathered to plunder Israel, seem to dicinigrate where they stand, creating a flow of blood and gore across the valley. Others of the remaining armies drop everything to try and run from the returning Christ. They flee into caves, and any hiding places that they can find. But the all-seeing eye of the Lord catches them even in their places of hiding in the mountains of Israel, they drop where the stand, even as the first-born sons dropped dead in Egypt when God sent the death angel at the 10th plague.
This is how the Tribulation and the Battle of Armageddon concludes. Tonight, we are going to look at the…
Setting up of the Millennial Kingdom
The first order of business; cleanup of the system—clean out the evil rulers of the world and make way for the King of Kings
Judgment after the Battle of Armageddon
Jesus takes over the rule of the world. He is literally King of Kings and Lord of Lords
This is the fulfillment of a number of prophecies.
He is the Lion of the Tribe of Judah
Genesis 49:9-10 9 Judah is a lion’s cub. From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He stooped down, he crouched as a lion, as a lioness. Who will rouse him up? 10 The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs. The obedience of the peoples will be to him.
Psalm 2: 6 “Yet I have set my King on my holy hill of Zion.” 7 I will tell of the decree: Yahweh said to me, “You are my son. Today I have become your father. 8 Ask of me, and I will give the nations for your inheritance, the uttermost parts of the earth for your possession. 9 You shall break them with a rod of iron. You shall dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.”
Psalm 2:10 Now therefore be wise, you kings. Be instructed, you judges of the earth. 11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. 12 Give sincere homage to the Son,[c] lest he be angry, and you perish on the way, for his wrath will soon be kindled. Blessed are all those who take refuge in him.
Psalm 110: The LORD says to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool for your feet.” 2 Yahweh will send out the rod of your strength out of Zion. Rule among your enemies.
5 The Lord is at your right hand. He will crush kings in the day of his wrath. 6 He will judge among the nations. He will heap up dead bodies. He will crush the ruler of the whole earth.
Daniel 2: 44 And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall [n]break in pieces and [o]consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever.
Matthew 1341 The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, 42 and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!
So, every evil ruler will be judged, the people of the earth will be judged. And the righteous will enter the 1,000-year kingdom. Now, here’s something you need to remember; There are two types of the righteous as we enter the millennium; there are those who are in their eternal forms, the dead who rose, and the living who were raptured, and then there are those who have repented and entered the kingdom as human beings.
Are there any non-Christians who enter the kingdom? I don’t entirely know. And here’s why. We are told a couple of details about the millennium that indicate that not everyone will be cooperating with Christ’s kingdom, during the millennium. In one place, for example,
Zechariah 14:17-19 17 And it shall be, that whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain.
18 And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, that have no rain; there shall be the plague, wherewith the Lord will smite the heathen that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.
19 This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all nations that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.
So, it seems that during the millennium, there will still be nations, at some point in time during the 1,000 years, who choose to rebel against Christ’s rule. Also, after the 1,000 years is over, Satan is released, and somehow manages to raise an army to fight the Lord again.
Revelation 20:7-8 7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,
8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog, and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.
So, for these two things to be true; rebellion during the 1,000 years, and a huge army after the Millennium still willing to follow Satan in revolt, you have to either have non-Christians enter the Kingdom, or be born during the Kingdom. I could go with either interpretation. I lean toward them being born during the Kingdom, because it seems that there is an immediate judgment after the Battle of Armageddon that immediately punishes evil men.
Okay, back to the chronology.
After judgment, the second order of business is clean up of the land.
Ezekial 39:9 “Then those who dwell in the cities of Israel will go out and set on fire and burn the weapons, both the shields and bucklers, the bows and arrows, the [f]javelins and spears; and they will make fires with them for seven years. 10 They will not take wood from the field nor cut down any from the forests, because they will make fires with the weapons; and they will plunder those who plundered them, and pillage those who pillaged them,” says the Lord God.
I remember years ago that someone made a point about this burning of weapons. This passage describes bows, arrows, javelins and spears, which are symbolic of all weapons used in this great battle. And it says that there will be so many cast off weapons that they will use them for fuel for 7 years. But they wondered, how will they use today’s weapons for fuel? Well, we have to remember that this is Jesus, God in flesh, glorified, returning to the earth. And God has a knowledge of the elements that He made the earth with that far exceeds our own. It’s possible that He will introduce the world to a way of burning metals, or anything that exists, and breaks them down to an atomic level where they can be used for fuel without polluting the earth. It might also include the explosive materials of bullets and bombs that are somehow utilized as fuel.
11 “It will come to pass in that day that I will give Gog a burial place there in Israel, the valley of those who pass by east of the sea; and it will obstruct travelers, because there they will bury Gog and all his multitude. Therefore they will call it the Valley of [g]Hamon Gog. 12 For seven months the house of Israel will be burying them, in order to cleanse the land. 13 Indeed all the people of the land will be burying, and they will gain renown for it on the day that I am glorified,” says the Lord God. 14 “They will set apart men regularly employed, with the help of [h]a search party, to pass through the land and bury those bodies remaining on the ground, in order to cleanse it. At the end of seven months they will make a search. 15 The search party will pass through the land; and when anyone sees a man’s bone, he shall [i]set up a marker by it, till the buriers have buried it in the Valley of Hamon Gog. 16 The name of the city will also be [j]Hamonah. Thus they shall cleanse the land.” ’
So, for months after the Battle of Armageddon, there will be people whose job it is to find dead bodies and mark them for burial.
This is interesting to me because the land of Israel has a great number of caves. It is called “the land of a thousand caves.” Well, we’ve already read that when Jesus comes back, that people will hide themselves in the caves and rocks. But no cave or rock can protect someone who is the enemy of our Lord. He is able to reach them with judgment, even in the deepest cave. Well here, in order to purify the land of all dead bodies, a group is formed whose entire job is to search for those bodies, and mark them for burial.
And I think this is an interesting story to help us understand the nature of the millennial kingdom. This means that the millennial kingdom will not be an entirely supernatural kingdom. What do I mean? Answer this question. If Jesus is sitting on a throne in Israel, does He need people to search for dead bodies and bury them? No. He could do all of that Himself. But the millennial kingdom is going to be an earthly kingdom, bound by some of the same rules we have now. It’s going to be the ideal, perfect Davidic kingdom. Christ will sit on the throne ruling in Israel. All of the other nations will serve the Lord, but they will still have some autonomy, and people will still have jobs to do.
Somebody will have the job of searching for bodies and burying them. In other words, the 1,000 year kingdom will kind of be like the Garden of Eden. Even though God was in the Garden with Adam and Eve, they still had the jobs of tending and keeping the Garden.
After clean-up comes set up. Christ sets up the millennial kingdom.
3rd order of business; set up the Kingdom.
What is the millennial kingdom going to be like?
Like nothing we’ve ever experienced.
1. Jesus will literally reign as the world’s king.
Hebrews 1: 8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.
Zechariah 14:9 9 Yahweh will be King over all the earth. In that day Yahweh will be one, and his name one.
Zechariah 14:16 And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. 17 And it shall be that whichever of the families of the earth do not come up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, on them there will be no rain. 18 If the family of Egypt will not come up and enter in, they shall have no rain; they shall receive the plague with which the Lord strikes the nations who do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. 19 This shall be the [i]punishment of Egypt and the punishment of all the nations that do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.
20 In that day “HOLINESS TO THE LORD” shall be engraved on the bells of the horses. The pots in the Lord’s house shall be like the bowls before the altar. 21 Yes, [j]every pot in Jerusalem and Judah shall be holiness to the Lord of hosts. Everyone who sacrifices shall come and take them and cook in them.
Psalm 68:29 29 Because of your temple at Jerusalem, kings shall bring presents to you.
Isaiah 9: 6 For a child is born to us. A son is given to us; and the government will be on his shoulders. His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end, on David’s throne, and on his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from that time on, even forever. The zeal of Yahweh of Armies will perform this.
Isaiah
66: 18 “For
I know their works and their thoughts. It shall be that I
will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come and see My
glory. 19 I will set a sign among them; and those
among them who escape I will send to the nations: to Tarshish
and [c]Pul and
Lud, who draw the bow, and Tubal and Javan, to the coastlands
afar off who have not heard My fame nor seen My glory. And they shall
declare My glory among the Gentiles. 20 Then they
shall bring all your brethren for an offering to the Lord out of all nations, on horses and
in chariots and in litters, on mules and on camels, to My holy mountain
Jerusalem,” says the Lord,
“as the children of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house
of the Lord. 21 And
I will also take some of for priests and Levites,” says
the Lord. 22 “For
as the new heavens and the new earth Which I will make shall remain before
Me,” says the Lord, “So shall
your descendants and your name remain.
23 And it shall come to pass That from
one New Moon to another, And from one Sabbath to another, All flesh shall come
to worship before Me,” says the Lord.
Luke 1: 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”
2. Christians will reign with Christ.
Revelation 20:4 I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them. I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus, and for the word of God, and such as didn’t worship the beast nor his image, and didn’t receive the mark on their forehead and on their hand. They lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
Any Christian who dies before the return of Christ, or is alive at the return of Christ, will be in new bodies. We will reign with Him for 1000 years.
Malachi 4:1-4 “For, behold, the day comes, it burns as a furnace; and all the proud, and all who work wickedness, will be stubble; and the day that comes will burn them up,” says Yahweh of Armies, “that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. 2 But to you who fear my name shall the sun of righteousness arise with healing in its wings. You will go out, and leap like calves of the stall. 3 You shall tread down the wicked; for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the Lord of hosts.
Luke 22: 29 And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me; 30 That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
This is Jesus talking specifically to the disciples. Their position during the kingdom is already known. They will each be appointed as judges over the twelve tribes of Israel. With the mass influx of Jewish people who have repented at the return of Christ, there will be a huge Jewish contingency who relocate to Israel. So, the disciples themselves will judge in Israel.
But the rest of transformed believers will also have their own places of authority.
Remember Jesus’ parable of the talents? In Luke, instead of talents, it is pounds.
Luke 19:16-18 Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds.17 And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.
What is implied here is that believers will be rewarded, according to their faithfulness, with authority in the millennial kingdom.
Paul said,
1 Corinthians 6: 2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
Revelation 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
So, we rule!
3. Israel will be the capital nation, Jerusalem the capital city of the world. The Jewish people will have repented in masse and serve the Lord in a restored nation.
There are lots of verses in the Old Testament.
Things that will happen in Israel.
a. The Jewish people will serve the Lord Jesus Christ.
Isaiah 10: 20 It will come to pass in that day that the remnant of Israel, and those who have escaped from the house of Jacob will no more again lean on him who struck them, but shall lean on the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth. 21 A remnant will return, even the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God. 22 For though your people, Israel, are like the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them will return. A destruction is determined, overflowing with righteousness.
b. Everyone will understand why the Jews suffered for so many generations.
Isaiah 63 21 “I will set My glory among the nations; all the nations shall see My judgment which I have executed, and My hand which I have laid on them. 22 So the house of Israel shall know that I am the Lord their God from that day forward. 23 The Gentiles shall know that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity; because they were unfaithful to Me, therefore I hid My face from them. I gave them into the hand of their enemies, and they all fell by the sword. 24 According to their uncleanness and according to their transgressions I have dealt with them, and hidden My face from them.” ’
c. All Israel will be saved.
Romans 11: 23 And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be grafted in: for God is able to graft them in again.
Romans 11:26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:
Isaiah 63:25 “Therefore thus says the Lord God: ‘Now I will bring back the captives of Jacob, and have mercy on the whole house of Israel; and I will be jealous for My holy name— 26 after they have borne their shame, and all their unfaithfulness in which they were unfaithful to Me, when they dwelt safely in their own land and no one made them afraid. 27 When I have brought them back from the peoples and gathered them out of their enemies’ lands, and I am hallowed in them in the sight of many nations, 28 then they shall know that I am the Lord their God, who sent them into captivity among the nations, but also brought them back to their land, and left none of them [k]captive any longer. 29 And I will not hide My face from them anymore; for I shall have poured out My Spirit on the house of Israel,’ says the Lord God.”
d. There will be a great gathering of Jews back to Israel.
Zephaniah 3:9 “For then I will restore to the peoples a pure [e]language, That they all may call on the name of the Lord, To serve Him with one accord. 10 From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia My worshipers, The daughter of My dispersed ones, Shall bring My offering. 11 In that day you shall not be shamed for any of your deeds In which you transgress against Me; For then I will take away from your midst Those who rejoice in your pride, And you shall no longer be haughty In My holy mountain. 12 I will leave in your midst A meek and humble people, And they shall trust in the name of the Lord. 13 The remnant of Israel shall do no unrighteousness And speak no lies, Nor shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth; For they shall feed their flocks and lie down, And no one shall make them afraid.” 14 Sing, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O Israel! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem! 15 The Lord has taken away your judgments, He has cast out your enemy. The King of Israel, the Lord, is in your midst; You shall [f]see disaster no more. 16 In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem: “Do not fear; Zion, let not your hands be weak. 17 The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” 18 “I will gather those who sorrow over the appointed assembly, Who are among you, To whom its reproach is a burden. 19 Behold, at that time I will deal with all who afflict you; I will save the lame, And gather those who were driven out; I will appoint them for praise and fame In every land where they were put to shame. 20 At that time I will bring you back, Even at the time I gather you; For I will give you [g]fame and praise Among all the peoples of the earth, When I return your captives before your eyes,” Says the Lord.
e. The land of Israel will blossom.
Joel 3: 18 And it will come to pass in that day That the mountains shall drip with new wine, The hills shall flow with milk, And all the brooks of Judah shall be flooded with water; A fountain shall flow from the house of the Lord And water the Valley of [h]Acacias. 19 “Egypt shall be a desolation, And Edom a desolate wilderness, Because of violence against the people of Judah, For they have shed innocent blood in their land. 20 But Judah shall abide forever, And Jerusalem from generation to generation. 21 For I will acquit them of the guilt of bloodshed, whom I had not acquitted; For the Lord dwells in Zion.”
Zechariah 14:8-11 8 It will happen in that day, that living waters will go out from Jerusalem: half of them toward the eastern sea, and half of them toward the western sea. It will be so in summer and in winter. 9 The LORD will be King over all the earth. In that day the LORD will be one, and his name one. 10 All the land will be made like the Arabah, from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem; and she will be lifted up, and will dwell in her place, from Benjamin’s gate to the place of the first gate, to the corner gate, and from the tower of Hananel to the king’s wine presses. 11 Men will dwell therein, and there will be no more curse; but Jerusalem will dwell safely.
f. Israel’s territory will be expanded.
Obadiah 1:15-21 15 For the day of Yahweh is near all the nations! As you have done, it will be done to you. Your deeds will return upon your own head. 16 For as you have drunk on my holy mountain, so will all the nations drink continually. Yes, they will drink, swallow down, and will be as though they had not been. 17 But in Mount Zion, there will be those who escape, and it will be holy. The house of Jacob will possess their possessions. 18 The house of Jacob will be a fire, the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble. They will burn among them, and devour them. There will not be any remaining to the house of Esau.” Indeed, Yahweh has spoken.
19 Those of the South will possess the mountain of Esau, and those of the lowland, the Philistines. They will possess the field of Ephraim, and the field of Samaria. Benjamin will possess Gilead. 20 The captives of this army of the children of Israel, who are among the Canaanites, will possess even to Zarephath; and the captives of Jerusalem, who are in Sepharad, will possess the cities of the Negev. 21 Saviors will go up on Mount Zion to judge the mountains of Esau, and the kingdom will be the LORD’s.
g. Israel will become the governing capital of the world.
Isaiah 1: 26 I will restore your judges as at the first, and your counselors as at the beginning. Afterward you shall be called ‘The city of righteousness, a faithful town.’ 27 Zion shall be redeemed with justice, and her converts with righteousness.
Isaiah 2: This is what Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. 2 It shall happen in the latter days, that the mountain of Yahweh’s house shall be established on the top of the mountains, and shall be raised above the hills; and all nations shall flow to it. 3 Many peoples shall go and say, “Come, let’s go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths.” For the law shall go out of Zion, and the LORD’s word from Jerusalem. 4 He will judge between the nations, and will decide concerning many peoples. They shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.
h. Israel will have peace at last.
Luke 1: 67 Now his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying:
68 “Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, For He has visited and redeemed His people, 69 And has raised up a horn of salvation for us In the house of His servant David, 70 As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets, Who have been since the world began, 71 That we should be saved from our enemies And from the hand of all who hate us, 72 To perform the mercy promised to our fathers And to remember His holy covenant, 73 The oath which He swore to our father Abraham: 74 To grant us that we, Being delivered from the hand of our enemies, Might serve Him without fear, 75 In holiness and righteousness before Him all the days of our life.
